Kartchner Caverns State Park

Not all discoveries are revealed immediately, and the discovery of the Kartchner Caverns took more than a decade to become public knowledge. It is fortunate that people did find out about this natural cave, as the cave has become a worthwhile attraction for anyone who finds him or herself in the area. In addition to becoming a state park, the cave has been deemed one of the best in the United States. The Park

The limestone cave that would lead to the Kartchner Caverns State Park’s founding was discovered in 1974, and it offers visitors a gorgeous look at both stalactites and stalagmites. The cave and park were finally made known to the public in 1988, and at this point the area became an Arizona State Park as well. Today you can stop by a gift shop where you can pick up souvenirs for your loved ones, and you can even hang out at the theater or a museum exhibit to learn everything you’d like to know about Kartchner Caverns State Park.

The Cave

The cave at Kartchner Caverns State Park is the star of the show, and it was first discovered in 1974. Since it took almost fifteen years for the cave to be revealed to the public, there was an opportunity for many conservation efforts to be put into place. Kartchner Caverns is especially exciting because it contains formations that break national and statewide records, like the longest soda straw stalactites.
