Is there a town name that’s more “Old West” sounding than Two Guns? No, there is not. Unlike most town names which are usually quite unremarkable, this town’s name came from a violent, eccentric hermit who lived in a cave, and was the site of an important battle between Navajos and Apaches in the 1800s. Although a lot of stuff used to happen there, absolutely nothing does now. Except for graffiti, vandalism, and the cold, slow march of time, that is! Come with us as we experience a truly unique ghost town.

Two Guns: a Place Where Battles Seemed to Happen Constantly
Although Two Guns was born thanks to it’s convenient location near trails and later, freeways, its reputation was forged in combat. It’s name was passed down by a violent cave-dweller who called himself “Two Guns”, and as I mentioned before, the town was the site of a major confrontation between the Navajos and Apaches. But that wasn’t the only time that people went to war at Two Guns. One notable battle involved U.S. Cavalry who were ambushed by a massive group of Native Americans and had to seek shelter in a cave while fighting off the Natives. According to recent travelers, artifacts from this battle continue to be found decades later.
Now, a Completely Abandoned Collection of Ruins
The cool thing about Two Guns is that it is now completely abandoned; unlike lots of ghost towns, there is no caretaker on site. This means two things: you’re free to explore the area (and find lots of arrowheads!) but also that people are free to vandalize the buildings that remain. There is lots and lots of graffiti in Two Guns, and it does kinda distract from the stark historical coolness of the place. Still, you’re free to explore the collection of buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries, but be careful: you never know when the next big battle will spring up!
