Brief History of the Wigwam Motel
In 1938, Chester E. Lewis was passing through Cave City and was impressed by the design of the original Wigwam Village constructed in 1937 by Frank Redford. Mr. Lewis purchased copies of the plans and the right to use the Wigwam Village name. Seven Wigwam Villages were constructed between 1936 and the 1950, the Holbrook location being the sixth, thus its designation as Wigwam Village #6.
Planning Your Visit
The Wigwam Village Motel #6 is located at 811 W. Hopi Dr., seven blocks west of downtown in Holbrook. Each teepee, or “wigwam,” has a full private bathroom with toilet and shower, cable TV, heat, and air conditioning. There is no ice machine in the rooms, but the staff is happy to fill a small ice bucket if requested. Two weeks in advance are recommended when making a reservation, and the motel has a 24-hour cancellation policy. The Wigwam Village Motel #6 is conveniently located to other Route 66 attractions including Meteor Crater, the Painted Desert, and the Petrified Forest National Park.
